Sandnessjøen

Sandnessjøen is the town with a sea of possibilities. From the coastal town beneath the Seven Sisters, you can follow the tracks of the Vikings, explore medieval churches, the poet priest, and the myriad of islands. Right in the heart of the beautiful Helgeland Coast. In the center of it all. Nestled between majestic mountains and beautiful islands.

On your way to Sandnessjøen, you pass over the majestic Helgeland Bridge and see the Helgeland Coast opening up before you.

Here, you are situated between the Seven Sisters, the Chief's Seat in Sandnes, the paddling paradise of Herøy, the Petter Dass Museum, and the cycling island of Dønna.

With Sandnessjøen as your base, you can easily reach the entire Helgeland Coast, either on your own by using express boats and ferries or by joining organized day trips to various places along the coast.

Alstenøya, where Sandnessjøen is located, has a large population of elk, and if you don't succeed in seeing one in the wild, you can visit the artificial elk on the outskirts of the town.

Sandnessjøen is close to the islands of Herøy and Dønna, accessible by ferry from the town center. By driving south, you will find the Petter Dass Museum, Viking Mound in Sandnes, and Tjøtta with its historic guesthouse, where you will also find the Tjøtta War Cemetery.

The World Heritage site on Vega is also reachable by ferry from Tjøtta.
