The establishment of Book North Travel
Going back to 2014, there was a recognized need to increase the influx of tourists to the area. The initial areas targeted for development were the towns of Helgeland and Bodø.
In August 2014, four companies from Bodø and Mo i Rana came together to establish the business network named NYT NORDLAND. Over time, this network evolved to create 'hubs', with a leading player in each of the four towns of Helgeland, Saltdalen, Saltstraumen, and Bodø collaborating to develop the network to cover the entire Nordland region from Brønnøysund to Bodø.
The business network was supported by Innovation Norway's business network program and also led to the establishment of several local networks in various towns/areas in the region.
The focus of the network was to create experiences that were marketable to encourage tourists to choose our area as their destination.
During the last year of the network's main project, decisions were made regarding the future direction of the network, concluding that the establishment of a DMC for the area was what the network participants wanted to implement.
Throughout the networking period, a total of 55-60 companies in the area were involved in workshops, various meetings, test marketing, and product testing. Throughout the entire period, Nordnorsk Reiseliv served as a partner, contributing expertise and knowledge that significantly facilitated the idea of a DMC, which was launched and established in June 2024.
